Why do I need a lawyer? Doesn’t my employer look out for my well-being?
The employer is going to call their insurance company who is going to get them to a lawyer immediately. Why wouldn’t you want to protect your rights as your employer will be doing?
How quickly should I contact an attorney after my accident?
SME is paid the same whether you contact us right away or a year later so why not take advantage of the benefit of the adivce of an attorney early on.
I had an accident / injury, what is the first thing that I do?
Record a journal of the events and feelings of the event. Memories fade over time, especially bad ones and it helps to have a record of events for future use.
When do I pay SME?
Only when the case is settled and all claims are resolved.
How long does a case take to settle?
Each case proceeds based upon its own facts. Most times what take the longest is for the plaintiff to get appropriate treatment and then heal after same
Besides contacting SME, what else should I do or not do?
Do not make any statements to the insurance company without the consultation of SME. If you already made a statement, tell SME when it took place and get a copy of the statement.
